Can’t I just keep my skincare simple?

Absolutely.
But there’s a difference between simple and incomplete.
I actually test this on myself all the time.
Recently, I simplified my own routine. I was still using high-quality skincare. I was still cleansing, hydrating, brightening and using ingredients that support healthy cellular turnover.
Nothing I was using was “bad.”
And my skin didn’t suddenly become bad either.
It just stopped looking… exceptional.
My pores looked more noticeable. My skin was less radiant. My tone wasn’t quite as even. By the afternoon, my face would look flushed and just a little off.
I kept looking in the mirror thinking, Why do I look tired?
Then my brutally honest husband informed me that it was the worst he’d seen my skin look in a long time. 😂
Thanks, babe.
What I find fascinating about skin is that good products don’t automatically equal a good skincare routine.
It’s the same way eating a few healthy foods doesn’t necessarily mean your entire diet is giving your body everything it needs.
Your skin is an organ. Different ingredients and products have different jobs, and the magic is figuring out what YOUR skin actually needs and what it doesn’t.
That does NOT mean everyone needs a bathroom counter covered in skincare.
In fact, I’m always looking for ways to make skincare simpler.
Because the best routine isn’t the one with the most products.
It’s the simplest routine that completely addresses what your skin needs to be healthy and function at its best.
And that’s different for everyone.
Someone trying to maintain already-healthy skin may need something very different from someone working on acne, pigmentation, redness, texture, aging or years of accumulated sun damage.
That’s why I’m not a huge fan of asking, “What’s the best skincare product?”
I think the better question is:
“What is my skin missing?”
Figure that out first.
Then every product in your routine should have a reason for being there.
No random products because TikTok told you to buy them.
No seven serums doing essentially the same thing.
No 14-step routine just so we can say you have one.
Just a thoughtful, comprehensive plan for YOUR skin.
Because the goal isn’t more skincare.
The goal is better skin.
We don’t chase dark spots. We change the skin that creates them.
